Repairing A Vintage Violet Wand

Kiddies, don’t try this at home:

I think I am now off to try and repair an 80 year-old violet wand. Any retired electrical engineers out there remember when capacitors were made by wrapping two sheets of paper separated by a dielectric oil? And if I were to have, I don’t know, blown it, how would I find it’s original value? And for the love of crap don’t tell me the oil is PCB, because I really don’t want it to be.
